Day 1 Postscript

We had technical difficulties yesterday afternoon -- in fact, any and all conflicts revolved around trying to get all of our computers and ipads and iphones and ithings working .... ugh. I am thinking that perhaps we should have left our "tools" behind .... but alas! we are all completely needy of these useful things -- to find the best RV site, to do various school activities, to navigate, etc. etc. Hopefully today we will have worked out some of our kinks.

We spent the afternoon driving through Utah, enjoying the sights of prairie dogs along the highway and the massive mountains covered in snow. I really do think that Utah is one of the most varied and beautiful states in our nation.

Our historical stop for the day was the “Golden Spike Historical Monument” in Promontory, Utah where the completion of the transcontinental railroad occurred. Here we watched a short movie about this historical moment, saw a replica of the spike and actual trellis, and walked the short section of railroad where the Union Pacific and Central Pacific railroads met together to form this incredible monument to human engineering.

One of Joe’s desires for the trip is to eat only in Ma & Pa local eateries for our meal out. And so -- we “dined” on the crest of a hill at “Wally’s Local Burgers” -- nothing spectacular to say the least but the chocolate malt was tasty :-) My priority for tomorrow -- a green vegetable (preferably not deep fried) on the menu!

  1. So happy to see the children's comments! When we went cross-country years ago (Maddie was 1!), we passed a journal around the van for the children to record their thoughts each day. That journal is a treasure today! Continued blessings!
